Essential Health Clinic

An innovative grass-roots service in Portland, OR; a wonderful example of community action.

A group of local physicians began volunteering to treat the uninsured in ‘clinics’ comprised of donated underused retail space.

They took pressure off of local emergency rooms, treating most patients for less than 5% of ER cost. The clinics have grown through local support, and are now functioning as training grounds for incoming professionals.

The organization hired an executive director last year, and is now expanding to treat patients’ families prior to urgent needs, while continuing to provide urgent care. Marsha’s work with the group includes core promise, board development, and strategic planning.
