Warming up a Fortune 100 Merger

Serving as HR partner to an Auditing and Security Department, I was concerned about an upcoming acquisition. How were we going to effectively join professional workforces from very different cultures and backgrounds?

I had a big idea that on the official day of transition, every person in the ‘incoming’ organization would get a personal phone call from a counterpart welcoming them to the Department. It looked impossible – hundreds of people were involved. I pulled people together who got excited about making the “impossible” “do-able”.

I loved the feeling of…”If we pull this off”….and we did pull it off; we mobilized 600 people and touched 600 more. The story lives as a high point of the merger. Amazing things often seem un-business-like, but they really make a difference in how a workforce views its challenges.
